Can’t make it to Prague for the 2019 Prague Quadrennial? We’ve got you covered.
The designers and builders of the Prague Quadrennial (PQ) exhibits will make their way to Louisville to show off what they’ve been working on this year. Both the National Exhibit and the Emerging Artists Exhibit appearing in Louisville will head to Prague to represent the United States at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial in June.
The Prague Quadrennial is the largest performance design event in the world; it is often described as the Olympics or World Fair for performance designers. This international exhibition of design and technology features the work of professional designers as well as students and theatre architects from around the world.
In recent years, the PQ has served as a meeting point for artists from every continent, artists whose traditions and professional lives might not otherwise converge.
By exhibiting thousands of designs from dozens of countries, and by bringing together designers, directors, students, and the general public, the PQ provides an unprecedented exchange of ideas that goes well beyond the narrow confines of theatrical design and style.
The University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Theatre and Dance is where the build process is currently taking place, and the USITT National Office got a first look at their progress and what you can look forward to seeing fully realized in Louisville. USITT members, look for full coverage in upcoming issues of Sightlines.
